I don't know the true story.

However I found it odd that Boris said she was training journalists then retracted.

Boris could only know what he had been briefed about, and my suspicion is that he revealed something he shouldn't have done.

I don't expect they are very fond of journalists in Iran to put it mildly.
As she had said she was on holiday in Iran introducing her baby to her parents, then Boris saying what he did, didn't help matters.
If she gets released and back home perhaps we will learn more then. We'll have to wait and see.
