Straight White Actor To Play Disney's First Gay Character.
67 Answers
/// Omar Sharif Jr tweeted: “Really Disney Jungle Cruise ? Your first significant gay role will be played by a straight white man perpetuating stereotypes? Fail! This ship should sink.” ///
Does it really matter if the actor happens to be straight or dare I say it, 'WHITE' for that matter?

As has been advised, the first criteria in casting is the suitability of the actor for the role.
In my view, sexuality should only be an issue if it directly impacts on the ability to play the role.
Since heterosexual men can and do act in gay adult films, I hardly think it's a stretch (leave it!!!) for a straight man to play a gay character.
Which gay actor would ever want to be awarded a role simply because of his or her sexuality, rather than his or her talent?

mallyh - // there wasn't an outcry when john hurt played quentin crisp //
Indeed not - I spoke to Mr Crisp about it, and he was delighted with Mr Hurt's portrayal, and Mr Hurt's orientation didn't seem to be an issue - but that was then, and this is now.
Would that Mr Crisp was around so I could call him and obtain his entertaining opinion on this nonsense.

@AOG 13.30..."if they didn't show signs of campness, how would they be recognised as gay?" Really? Quite simply....many gay actors have simply stated that they are gay....well-known Britsh and American actors from TV and film.
(If you still don't understand/believe that fact, a little googling may help).

According to an article in the DM ( and I know, I know we shouldn't believe anything written in the DM ), Stephen Fry wrote on Twitter ( presumably tongue in cheek), ' I share your shame, Jack Whitehall - I played a straight man more than once. A father even. I should have been sent for training, correction and adjustment years ago.'
I'm sure someone will check this out!!

Well I didn't know that, but then I do not watch gay adult films.
Know any of those heterosexual gay film actors personally Andy? //
Not personally - no.
The concept of 'gay for pay' is well known in the adult film industry.
