Once more it seems that we have been forced to back down from our rules in English dress code, so as to fit in with other cultures.

Problems with multiculturalism are now appearing on almost a daily basis and pose quite difficult problems to the establishment. This is not the UK that i know and was brought up in, educated in and have experience of............ I am glad that i lived in the era that i have done well over the half century. I do not understand most aspects of life today and my take...

The long summer holiday can unhinge the best of us Fluff. ;-)
"They wear their dreads as an expression of an inner spirit, mind and soul journey that they put themselves through when starting to grow their deadlocks. For them, the term “dread” refers to a “fear of the Lord”; expressed in part as alienation from the perceived decadence and other evils of contemporary society and a return to the Covenant with the Almighty."

//No.. Do they legally HAVE to go? (to school)Yes..//
No actually. School is not compulsory. Education is, but attending school isn't.
///good point, gawd knows what's living in there and yes probably (my italics) the kid himself is being used by attention seeking parents to get their 15mins///

a. There is absolutely no reason why, or evidence that, dreadlocks should be any dirtier than other hairstyles (apart from the suspicion/distrust of those who shudder or disapprove of them);
b. you have no evidence apart from your own belief (reasons suggested above) that the parents are seeking fame/notoriety/money.
"No actually. School is not compulsory. Education is, but attending school isn't."

Yes very fair point there
spath 15:07, well the main man didn't, see my link above.
Yes, TTT i have. Have you read mine?

Jah bless anyhow.
Dread locks are not even part of Tafarianisn. Must have been hijacked later.
"the main man"

Like jesus was king of the jews, and jewish.. yet apparently people who follow him are christian?
and it's "rastafarianism"
The maths...
"and it's "rastafarianism" - must I give an Ethiopian History lesson! Spath you are nice enough chap who means well but your depth of ignorance is quite breath taking.
tafari was the emperor, the religion is Rastafarianism.

Christ was "our lord".. christianity is the religion

But yes SP your point about the maths really does wipe the debate of "if the school was right" off of the table. The school was not right which is why the boy won the court case. If he had dreads when entering the school, why exclude him for them getting longer?
Ras is a prefix for a Baron type local chief. The man it applies to is Tafari. He arose from many the Rasdoms of Abyssinia, later Ethiopia and became Haile Selassie. Should I educate you more?
Sure..
Educate me by telling me why Rastafarians take a person so recent in 'history' and compare them to a deity?

Or is it about the soul and spirit more?

The boy (or should I say his Mother?) won the court case. with the help of their lawyers, funded by the Equality and Human Rights Commission.

What chance in winning the case did the school have, who did they have to fund them?
spath: No religion makes any sense why should this one? Tafari Makonnen is the "deity" here but he has very few similarities to those that claim to be "Rastafarian" hence my claim above than most of them wouldn't have a clue of the origins. Certainly Dreadlocks are nothing to do with it. Modern day "Rastafarians" are primarily a product of Jamaican sub culture that have hijacked the Abyssinian connection.
Very educational this post
