Is there anyone here from that town in Suffolk that has banned Christmas lights? I think it's absolutely ridiculous. This country has been a Christian country since King Richard 1, at least. There are many Church of England schools. Even those that aren't church aided are christian schools. This type of action is a gross insult to the christian people of this country. I just hope that every house in the town covers itself in christmas lights.

woops! Sorry missed that point!

*Blush*

Our local council tried to ban Santa's Grotto and the Christmas display last year because it might offend people not celebrating Christmas. They backed down because of the outcry and it amused me no end to see lots of Asian families queuing up to meet Santa.

I live in an area with probably one of the largest Asian populations in the country and I have never heard any Asian say they were offended by Christmas. I know people who are devout Muslims and Hindus who do not get involved in Christmas at all, but they certainly don't object to other people celebrating it. I live in the Asian part of town and most of the shopkeepers put decorations up at Christmas (I think they recycle the Diwali decorations with some added reindeers!).

Hermia - what a great reply!!!

Just the point I made earlier on - the children love it and they learn from adults. So let them enjoy the bright twinkly lights and trees and fun during their innocence.

And good on the Asian families in your area for embracing the fun!!
