Bit Of Rough News Yesterday.

OH went to hospital to have his ears drilled out as I call it. While he was there he asked the nurse about a sore spot on the edge of his nostril. He has had it for a few months now and it won't heal. She had a look and said excuse me for a moment. She came back with a doctor who had a look at it.
He said I am going to do two biopsies on it now as I think you have skin cancer. My blood ran cold when he said that. As we have been down that route before when he had lung cancer. He did the biopsies and he said they would be sent away for analysis and he would be sent an appointment in two weeks. If it was good news he would be phoned asap.
We couldn't fault the service, it was amazing. Not come across such speedy and so caring service. Everyone was so kind and it was his 81st birthday.

Oh I'm sorry to hear that Caran :(
On the bright side my grandfather had skin cancers on his nose and it was a very simple procedure to remove them and he suffered no long term affects from that. I do hope it's good news though xxx

it is likely to be a rodent ulcer ( BCC) or squame ( SCC )
and is kinda harmless within this conversation

Hi Caran , my wife had something like this a couple of years ago , turned out it was a " rodent ulcer " a form of skin cancer , they are usually virtually harmless but can be very worrying , she was soon sorted with a couple of easy procedures to remove it . Hopefully this is all it is . Best wishes

Thank you all so much. He looks a bit of a mess with the sore and two biopsy holes in his nose but he is not letting it get him down. Last night we met up with four of our friends for a get together with drinks and nibbles and tonight we met up with six other friends for a meal at a local pub. We have a busy week with our U3A meeting tomorrow and skittles and lunch on Friday.
How did we ever find time to work I wonder!

Better a simple cancer that will be treated and heal nicely than a sore spot that doesn't. A skin cancer nurse specialist I worked with used to say if you take anyone over 80 and look closely enough you will probably find skin cancer or pre cancer changes on most of them. Half the time people never even realise they are there.

Hopefully it's nothing more than a superficial BCC. These things can invariably be excised completely by a Dermatologist, or he might be given a cream called Aldara.

Most skin cancers aren't life-threatening.

Melanoma is the one to worry about but I'd have thought the nostril an unusual location for a melanoma to appear.
