When the Act was being written, do you think it was ever imagined that it would allow for absurdities such as shown in the link?

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2018/11/02/gay-sauna-criticised-telling-transgender-man-leave-female/

In a nutshell a woman identifying as a man but still being in possession of a vagina (in other words a woman) was asked to leave the sauna because it is only licensed for gay men.

From the report “In a statement, Sailors Sauna said: "We are only licensed for men to use the venue.

"I understand that the gentleman was male, however his physical gender was different and as a customer had already stated that a female was using the venue, I explained that I would need to clarify with the council.”

‘He’ wasn’t male. She is female.

The Act allows this state of affairs to exist – but sometimes the law is wrong.

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry when I read that sort of nonsense. What ‘gentleman’?

I can’t access that link but it seems to me that this wonderful diversity thing that we’re all supposed to be heartily embracing must rebound. Gays and others on here are very vocal in their support of transgenders using facilities designated specifically to real men/women but I suspect, and have done for a long time now, that those responsible for promoting this ridiculous situation will, in their confusion, eventually end up climbing up their own bottoms.
it's a lamentable situation, she should be allowed anywhere near the place if it's for gay men only.
that should say shouldn't be allowed
Well, as long as the women moaning about this are happy sharing their sauna with a transgender man.
As far as I can see they have no choice, Jim. She's a woman.
Nah, he's a man, so you wouldn't have to worry about it :P
The world has gone completely mad. I am very angry, my application for Crufts entry has been rejected, they wont accept I am a Cocker Spaniel.

On a serious note ( this is in news) this will happen more and more.
This kind of thing will happen more and more.

Since humans evolved, society has been based around the fact that there are two sexes, male and female, and whichever genitals you're born with determines which one you are.
If that model is being torn up, lots of things are going to have to be re-thought.
jim, pardon?
I'll probably get removed for this, but I did find it amusing when the name of the director of campaigns at the gay rights charity Stonewall was set out in the article......
mushroom, I can't access the article. What are you talking about?
Paul Twocock, director of campaigns at the gay rights charity Stonewall, said: “There’s widespread misunderstanding about the legislation on this issue. Trans people’s right to use single-sex spaces that match their gender is already settled in law
Naomi, the director of campaigns at the gay rights charity Stonewall is one Mr Paul Twocock.
Perhaps Paul could offer his spare one.
Oh my .... sounds a useful chap! :o)

Should there really be 'gay only' venues? Have the sauna open to everyone then this issue would not have occurred.
Gosh, it is becoming tangled now, isn't it?

I'm not quite sure what the answer is except, perhaps, to insist that a full transition has been completed (showing, at least, real commitment to the process).

If there is no outward difference between your physicality and the one you have chosen, onlookers ought to have nothing to trigger suspicion and complaint.
SlackAlice, thank you.
It’s ironic really that gay people (and others here) are adamant that the trans community should be able to use facilities specifically allocated to those of the opposite natural gender, and yet this sauna has rejected this customer, not because she isn’t gay, but because she doesn’t have the required ‘equipment’.
