"The time to resign was last night, before backing the deal rather than afterwards."

Indeed jim. And the time for Mr Raab to resign was long before that as he, above all others, must have known the content of the unilateral deal that Mrs May has agreed.
Cannie wait to be able to say "i told u"
One has a point, as negotiator he would be aware long before yesterday; but he may well have wanted to see how the land lay, and taken a short while after the meeting to make a decision. Resigning beforehand would simply mean he'd look incompetent being in role for a while then going, and he'd just be replaced on the team anyway.
No 3, Esther McVey
so they fall on their swords, will it make that much of a difference at the end of a long day.
Mrs May surely can't survive this ... can she?
mcvey has resigned
she is holding on, but for how long.
Were they all to weasely to resign last night or do you think they may have wanted to sleep on it?
too weasely^
Who knows? I think they agreed to it knowing that it was the best option short of abandoning the whole idea, but want to pretend that they have some integrity. I cannot understand the decision to back a deal and then walk away from its consequences other than due to cowardice.
I don't think that we have the whole story. It was reported last night that ten ministers were against the deal.
Yes, I heard that too, although my understanding is that May can only have walked out and said what she did is if they ultimately agreed to the deal. In which case it is sad, and, frankly, pathetic, to see those same ministers resigning today.

NJ and I are, at least, in agreement on the fact that those resignations should have occurred before accepting this.
