Put simply it appears that we're back where we started, only now lacking the ability to influence decisions made by the EU whilst being governed by and beholden to that bloc. It would have been better just to abandon the whole devisive farce, putting it down to bad dream.

I can't say I know anyone who thinks this is a good deal either, which is why I too am surprised by the report. However, I do think there's one truth that's unpalatable for the hardline Brexiteers on AB: that many Leave voters were not nearly so ideologically committed to Brexit as you lot are, and that they would gladly accept a poor man's version of it rather than chase shadows. For that matter, I may myself have to get used to the idea that overturning Brexit altogether is probably impossible.
Incidentally, ymb, I appreciate that "polls" is somewhat of a dirty word around here, but still, they are they best we have to meaningfully track what people think, and they tend to paint a pretty consistent picture.

I don’t think Jim influenced the Conservative Government, so any triumph (it doesn’t look like one) is solely down to May and Co., and the Brixiters who were abscent at their posts (Gove, Johnson, Rees Mogg) to watch this happen.
It is a neat trick to pass on blame to the people who were not involved, for the end result.

I’ve written to my MP today.
I don’t suppose it’ll make a blind bit of difference, but having looked on his website, I just had to do it.
A constituency with a very strong leave vote, he thinks it is the best deal we can get, and one he can live with.
I wonder how many of his constituents can live with it too.
