Harry Leslie Smith has died at the age of 95. He spent the last decade of his life tirelessly fighting for equality and justice.
His generation suffered extreme poverty and deprivation in the 1930s, fought fascism in the 1940s and then rebuilt Britain as a far better and fairer place after the Second World War was over.
They gave us the NHS, the welfare state, legal aid, better pensions, public infrastructure, and millions of decent social homes.
Harry spent the last years of his life fighting against the ideologically driven Tory destruction of the progress his generation had made.
To give up the fight to preserve these wonderful legacies to just leave them to Tory ruin would be a betrayal of Harry's memory, and a betrayal of the rest of his generation who left us them.
