Why should it cost a mother £50k to stop a paedophile getting near her kids? This beggars belief.

The system is flawed and that's what they have to work with - something must change. It's an outrageous state of affairs.
You do make a lot of sweeping statements don't you.

Because of this one case you think everyone who works for Social Services is an idiot.

I have seen many of your questions where you make out that all sorts of people are idiots - like a few weeks ago when you said all the contestants on this years Apprentice were idiots (even though many of them - or maybe all of them - run their own business).

But then it is very easy to sit at a computer screen and make out you are perfect and the rest of the world is made up of idiots.
Guilbert -sorry but have you watched the Apprentice? They are all idiots.
Yes, many social service employees are jobsworth idiots. I've come to this conclusion by reading the news, as above, plus children being killed by parents even though SS were informed of problems, rapist being allowed access to children they have fathered following the rape....beggars belief. Social Services need a huge amount of money thrown at it plus more training and more staff.

guilbert, it's not one case, this sort of thing happens regularly. In fact there was another thread this week. This case is especially bad because they were being vindictive. Forcing a woman to go to court to save her own kids rather that using a bit of common. This smacks of some nasty busibodies going the extra mile to enforce their perverted rules on an innocent family
This case is not the fault of the social workers - they have to absolutely work within the law and the law states that fathers have the legal right to see their children.

A mother or legal guardian can apply to the family court to get this right blocked and it is the court's decision, not the social services. Why it was such a hard and lengthy battle in this particular case I don't know, maybe the children wanted to see their father. We will never the reasons because family courts are rightly private.
Question Author
yes hc technically but they don't have to pursue with such vigour and cost this poor woman £50k. Just use a bit of common.
That was the courts that cost her that much, not the social services.
As soon as the mother became aware of her ex-husband's application to see the children she should (or did?) have contacted the court straight away to get it blocked. The court's judgement would be final and the social services could not have appealed.
So why the courts dragged it for so long (apparently) is the mystery. Or maybe the mother chose to hire a very expensive lawyer which racked the costs up.
The social services had no choice as to whether to pursue the ex-husband's application.

this whole family court thing needs looking at, from the link; ""It's well known that the family courts are used by perpetrators to get access to victims, re-traumatise their victims." - so who is backing these purps? SS? bl00d sucking scum Lawyers? How come they have money to pay? rhetorical, of course our soft touch state pays for these low lives to heap misery on their victims back up of course by the ever feeling TROB. Makes my blood boil.
another appalling story, it does beggar belief.
Lefty idiots using human rights to justify doing things like this.
Question Author
quite webbo, the human rights of the woman and her kids are secondary to the human rights of low life scum.
Don't be ridiculous, it's nothing to do with being a 'lefty'- I don't know a single left wing person who doesn't think this state of affairs is appalling. Get a grip and stop using a tragic situation to point score.
Guilbert, there are about 30,000 social workers in the UK, so we've got quite a few threads to come before TTT's dealt with all of them.

But I can't see how social services cost her the money. They obeyed the law, as they should.

Don’t forget we don’t know whether or not the child wanted contact. We assume not, but we don’t know. The family court has to take the child’s wishes in to account
My other half-just about to retire, thank goodness, works as a social worker. Her experiences would fill a book. It is understaffed, underfunded and from some of the imbecilic comments here, largely misunderstood.
I think the main misunderstanding Highbury seems to be that individual Social Workers decide on a course of action off their own back.

We all know that's not true and the reason they are understaffed is because of low morale and disillusionment within their ranks.
They are neither allowed nor encouraged to use their judgment to take a decision. The whole system is gripped by a fear of repercussions. That’s partly why morale is so low and recruitment is even lower.
