i'm at a bit of a loss to understand why this is an issue. Rachel Dolezal, provably white, self identifies as black, and this is accepted. if self identity is good enough for gender, why not for race?

More daft moaning, akin to so-called appropriation. Some feel a need to cry, "Poor us you aren't allowed to use our words, our style, our everything." Best ignored and not given the air of publicity. It only encourages them.
more attention seeking cobras.
Publicity seeker.
There are odd balls everywhere.

Usually best to avoid eye contact let alone 'follow' them.
//if self identity is good enough for gender, why not for race? //

Good question.

Also, ignore anyone who whinges about cultural appropriation. No culture has exclusive rights to anything. Just because they originated something doesn't mean they own it.

Race can be scientifically identified.........gender cannot.......

Big difference, one is subjective the other is objective.
You're either male, female or intersex.

You're either black, or you're not. However, one argument is... Surely most people are of black descent?
Actually, I understand that all people on earth belong to the same race. Homo Sapiens (with a dash of Neanderthal). Race used to be a term used when it was convenient and 'common sense' to define the natives of distant lands as being not truly human, and therefore acceptable to steal their land and enslave them without feeling guilty.

I suppose it depends whether you agree that self-identification for gender is acceptable. I happen to think not.
