Since 2013, more than 17,000 people have died while waiting to hear whether their claim for disability benefit had been successful

I personally know someone with severe rheumatoid arthritis. He has had it since he was born. It has always affected him, docs said he'd be in a wheel chair by the time he was 18. Thankfully he's holding out, but just coming up to 30 it's becoming more of a issue.

The gov have assessed him numerous times, and claim he is fit to work. (Trust me, he isn't, i'd be the first to expose a benefit fraud, but that's the thing, they won't give him benefits!)

Have you seen the adverts about arthritis? That's literally him every morning. It's horrific. I feel so bad for him, but thankfully he hasn't died. It's a shame the same can't be said for the 17,000 other people.

Has he appealed or gone to tribunal? He should get his MP involved, that usually works!
Between April 2013 and October 2017 there were 3,185,000 claims for PIP.

Even if all the 17,000 deaths fell in that period, that's 5.3 deaths per 1000 claims.

Compare that to the annual UK mortality rate of about nine deaths per 1,000.
