this story reminded me of a story of a man who fell down a well when i was a child. I think it was in the isle of wight I remember he had a foreign sounding name and they heard some knocking from him a few days in. but i think he died. does anyone remember that? i tried google but as it was 25+ years ago i cant find anything

The hole has been there only about a month on their land and not been covered over properly. Poor little boy.
This reminds me of a case quite a few years ago when a small boy fell down a hole, might have been in Italy but not sure, and for days his rescuers kept talking to him as they tried to get him out, and he answered them. Then he stopped answering and was dead when they got to him. It was heartbreaking and I remember a friend of mine said that was the day she stopped believing in God.

That is not good, not good at all.

What makes it worse is that the parents had another child who died suddenly, aged three.
It's heartbreaking.

bednobs, I've found the case I mentioned, from 1981!! There was an outcry because he died.

Bednobs. I used to work with his brother. Brothers name is Linus, always walked aroun barefoot. His surname was foreign but could never pronounce it. Sounded Russian.

I remember while doing a project on mines rescue,as part of my apprenticeship, reading the report on an incident in the Peak Caverns,Castleton.A potholer became trapped and eventually died.The report concluded that the build up off C0 from his own breathing was the cause of death.One witness who had been at the scene virtually the whole time described how at first he was able to talk then his breathing gradually slowed down until everything in the cavern went quiet as he passed. His parents asked that no more lives be put at risk trying to recover his body so the shaft was sealed off and a plaque mounted over it

Since this is not a unique event, it's surprising authorities or expert commercial companies have no method to dig someone out before 24 hours have gone by.
