This topic is a real problem/dichotomy for those on the left.

FF, it seems it is not a problem if the left does what the left does best. Ignore the issue if they are fronted with a difficult conundrum.

Where are they?
Well as bednobs said it's a dichotomy for the right too. However 'the right' on here seem to me to be supporting the Muslims here so maybe there is a new alliance to be had here. Not sure how many on the Left are on here- maybe gulliver but you won't get any sense out of him
fiction-factory, //However 'the right' on here seem to me to be supporting the Muslims here so maybe there is a new alliance to be had here.//

Steady on there. Don’t run ahead of yourself. I support parents who object to the subject being taught because I don’t believe it’s a suitable subject for young children. I do not, however, agree that the wishes of those parents must be respected because they are Muslim, which is one of the reasons given by Mrs Shah for objecting. Whether the school is 98% Muslim or not, her religion is not a valid reason to change the curriculum - or anything else.
Christianity changed the curriculum and a lot of schools are catholic or religious. I remember singing religious hymns in school.
//Christianity changed the curriculum //

When did that happen, spath?
Not sure about you Naomi, but when i was at school, especially primary school they went on OTT about jesus.

Even had a harvest festival in celebration of the lords fruit.
But you said the curriculum was changed. Changed from what - and when?
From no study of jesus, to study of jesus.
It's odd how i've never been to church, but i know the story of the bible so well, and i've even played part as a lamb in a religious play.

Regardless what was taught, Christianity consumed my school years, specifically my primary school years.
spath, you haven't thought that through.
Regardless what the curriculum offers, many schools throw Christianity in your face.
That isn't what this discussion is about, spath. Try addressing the OP.
Well i feel regardless of the religion, people would protest that if they are religious. Especially Christians. Remember the christian cake shop?

So really.. This need not be about Muslims.
But it is about Muslims.
Religion based trouble again. Why not just class religion as a hobby/passtime and take all reference to it out of UK legislation?
Anyhow, as a baby boomer growing up in the fifties and sixties, we were never taught anything about sex. Nothing. Nowt. Never any reference to it from starting school to leaving. All that "biology" stuff was handled by teaching about animals and how they reproduce but the word sex was never mentioned. Oh no! And whilst I was at school, homosexuality was illegal amongst men but not women, cos Queen Vic said that women don't do such things. So it seems to me that these people are looking for a fifties/sixties style education and balls to the reality!
Teaching and promoting are separate

Not sure whether to laugh or cry at that placard.
Hasn’t there already been a thread on this?
