Why Is Everyone Nowadays So Scruffy?

It wasn't always so, in fact scruffiness has never been so endemic throughout history.
The French are probably the best dressed in Europe (the Women for sure). In Japan, the taxi drivers wear clean shirts and ties, but here everyone seems to be dressed sloppily, even in theatres and restaurants.
Is it indicative of something, or doesn't it matter?

It comes from a general lowering of standards, plus a dose of the "I don't care" attitude.

Try harder then gentlemen - I always dress for dinner, even alone.

We are casual but not scruffy, and if we are say, going out for a meal at a decent Restaurant we always up our game accordingly, Girls in Saris, Mrs B and Guys in smart casual.
To be fair I don't think many people take a lot of notice nowadays.

Reminds me of when I was on Jury Duty - I got "elected" as Foreman because I was the only one wearing a suit.

It'll doubtless have something to do with this hectic life that everyone leads these days.
More likely to be a combination of staring slack-jawed at a screen for too long, leaving no time, and laziness.

Khandro, people are scruffy now, why I do not know. A lack of personal pride or an arrogance that says 'We don't care how we're perceived by others'? Why dress in horrible clothes when it takes as long to dress in nice clothes?

Hygiene is another problem. Unwashed bodies falling out of bed and doing school runs or going shopping in supermarkets in pyjamas. On a plane last week I was unfortunate enough to sitting behind someone to whom deodorant appeared to be an unknown commodity. Unpleasant doesn't describe it.

I'm normally in workware Dewalt top and trousers, if I'm going anywhere, e.g. Local town I'll have wrangler's and shirt and jacket. Anything like meal out I'll be suited and booted.

Ooo....you scare me, Khandro......you heard the conversation my friend B and I had on the phone tonight.....
We had both had hospital appointments in different departments this week and rather than discuss our medical problems...that'd be a tad boring...we discussed how scruffy most of the others in the waiting rooms were.....does nobody polish shoes any more?
Yes, we were judgemental and mean.....but honestly....folk were very scruffy.

Ive yet to see anyone food shopping in jim jams or onesies. when I go in our local Tescos or Morrisons?
