In the 1980s with Thatcher in power, being very right wing was a good career move. It was during this period that Bercow was selected to stand in two General Elections (he lost both). And when he finally became an MP, Norman Tebbit was a fan, as was The Spectator magazine.

The article does not say Bersow was a Neo-Nazis.
It says he campaigned with some Neo-Nazis, but it does not actually name any or give context. He could just have attended an anti immigration demo, and there was some National Front people also there.

I'm not surprised at all. Odious man.

/// He could just have attended an anti immigration demo, and there was some National Front people also there. ///

Oh yes!! He just popped along for general interest. The article doesn't even mention the National Front.

/// The young Bercow campaigned with neo-Nazis who endorsed an odiously racist policy for black and Asian Britons to be ‘repatriated’ to their ancestral homelands. ///

/// Also, for much of the 1980s and 1990s, he was a hero of the far-Right and made outspoken attacks on feminism and gay rights. He endorsed capital punishment, too, and, after becoming an MP in 1997, gained a well-earned reputation for misogyny. ///

/// Bercow stood for election to the Monday Club’s ruling national executive committee. His manifesto stated ‘the strengthening of our national identity demands a programme of assisted repatriation’ for black and Asian immigrants. ///

ANOTHEOLDGIT, which of Bercow's previous views or comments do you object to most?
I'm terribly conflicted now. (Is that the right word).

Quite unexpectedly I find so many things to admire and respect in the Speaker. And yet he's a Remainer.

(Walks around in circles shaking head and muttering "Who why what and how?")
