Have any of you ABers ever had a discussion here which has genuinely changed your opinion?

I have.

That's heartening, Spath. I'm afraid that I haven't. I find that there's a bit too much dogmatic assertion and not much logical evidence-based argument.
I'm not sure if I changed my mind, I might well have but I've certainly seen many things from a different point of view that I hadn't previously considered.
Well it depends what discussions you're getting yourself into.. when they are opinion based such as "should we ban the burka" there is no level ground to come to.. It's a matter of opinion so back and forth is expected, when it's factual for example The Disappearance of Madeline McCann and someone can provide actual evidence (not an opinion) to suggest a point, then you have to take that on board to your opinions, and sometimes it can cause them to change (in my experience)

I agree though, dogmatic assertion makes me stick to my tracks especially when the reason the other person is acting like that is because they simply feel they have more of a say over the matter.

A wise man knows that he knows nothing. Therefor, anyone who is overly confident is an idiot.
Yes, I used to think ABers were honest and had the courage of their convictions but not anymore.

I said a few years ago that lots of ABers were cowards... that opinion is even more entrenched today.
cowards? What do you mean by that.. in what sense?
I think most folks generally say what they mean though Talbot, and that integrity actually has made me reconsider a few things over the the years, but for the most part I don't change my core opinion often usually because I don't formulate a firm one until I have a fair idea of most of the facts.
only when i've given an incorrect crossword answer
Yes, about age gaps in relationships
"I don't formulate a firm one until I have a fair idea of most of the facts."

See, that's the issue with me. I do
of course I do ! ( one does ) as a result of experience - not so much by reading AB.

that includes heeding early - dont stick your fingers in the dogs mouth - it will bite you!

one dear old man said
'when I first started at a bank, I thought the mgr was the wisest man I had ever met. By the time I retired I thought the then mgr was ....."
well there is experience for you!
what about saying to someone - dont buy LonRho, Plessey or Metro bank....( shares )

well he knows now - - - they have all gone phut innit?
Yes I have - the length of time I have been posting here, it's inevitable that sooner or later a point will be made that makes me re-assess a previously held viewpoint.

I can't bring an example to mind, but there have been some, I know.

Regulars will be delighted to know that oft-expressed views on news reporters standing out in the snow telling me it's snowing, the inability of Gloria Hunniford not to shoehorn her late daughter into every single conversation she joins, and the general existence of 'Tommy Robinson' remain as constant as the northern star.
The most that tends to happen is that I'm aware of other viewpoints, and it gives me something to consider, up until the point when I identify why they're probably wrong.
Yes.
Andy,you forgot Terry Wogan! ;-)
^ she's just never admitted to it ;o) ;oP
spath, andy-hughes is a bloke.
LOL
honestly no....nothing I have been involved in on here has changed my opinion about the subject being discussed. Other experiences and so on have but not AB so far.
