I Googled "Is Sri Lanka safe for tourists"?

And came up with this:

/// The good news is that Sri Lanka is a remarkably safe place to travel in, and violent crime against foreigners is virtually unheard of – this is still a place where, despite 25 years of brutal civil war, in parts of the country the theft of two bicycles is considered a crime wave. ///

How times have changed.

"You have displayed a level of ignorance on this thread that is hardly believable. "

I think that's a matter of opinion.
"But you've got more chance of getting killed by a wasp than Somali pirates, spaf. "

Yeah, because i don't have a boat. Duhhhhhh
" I bet you didn't know this site exists. "

You mean Gov.uk? Think you're being ridiculous now. Of course I know it exists.
At 1407: "Yeah, because i don't have a boat. Duhhhhhh." And the fact that you don't own a boat is precisely one of the reasons why you won't get killed by a Somali pirate. Duhhhhhh.
that was my joke.
Yeh, OK.
Anyhow.. I follow the company sea shepherds on multiple outlets mainly twitter. They often have to fight off pirates / poachers, and they upload the footage online or onto twitter. They usually attack boats not in specific shipping lanes. They attack the sea shepherds with drones, rocks, guns and molotovs. I was debating volunteering for the seashepherds, so in my mind, i'm more likely to get stoned by a pirate then i am shot dead by a terrorist.

//I think that's a matter of opinion.//
It is also a matter of record on your 1145 post. :-(
I'm talking about the "hardly believable" part.
There is no question that i was ignorant, but people can't help being ignorant to things. Everyone is ignorant until they're not.
Then I suggest you educate yourself first on the ideology of Islam .After all it is better to keep your mouth closed and be thought a fool rather than open it and prove it. :-)
Eh? I was ignorant about the Tunisia beach situation, which this thread was not about.
and i disagree. I don't mind being the "fool". I never see myself as the fool, others label me as the fool. Sometimes people disagree with these labels, sometimes they don't. Who really cares lol no one knows who or what i am. I'd rather communicate and learn than silence myself and be left out.
I went to Tunisia when I was in my 20's and had a ball, but there is no way on earth I would ever go back now, or to any other Islamic countries. My choice and one I'm very happy with.
Here you are Peace Lily. I always keep my promises if I can.

I see that memorial every time I visit the cashpoint. A couple I socialised with.
Please do not tell me it is totally safe to holiday in any country in the world especially an Islamic country.
Would you like to hear my personal experience of my son taking my Grand daughters against my advice to Egypt for a holiday. There is an old Thread somewhere on AB.
The day after they arrived in resort there was an Islamic terrorist attack in the same resort but next to their hotel. Swedish tourists were attacked by the ROP on that atrocity. I never heard from my family out there as they switched their phones off and didn't want to be disturbed. A worrying fortnight and needless to say they never dared venture to have a nice boat trip on the Nile or visit the Pyramids. Never again
There was a terrorist attack in Sharm when I went to Egypt. I didn't know anything about it until I turned my phone on later that day.

We were no where near it. Luckily.
ummmm
This the attack which I refer to.

I wont bother trying to educate Spaf on the Luxor massacre of tourists
any thing good in the deleted answers
there is certainly not much meat on the ones that remain.
No Retro, it was a bomb and it happened in Sharm El-Sheikh about 15 years ago. I was 100s miles away in Marsa Alam but my friends and family didn't know that.
Luxor massacre here
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luxor_massacre

1997 - 22 y ago.... I was on a cruise with a lady who was in Luxor tat he time. They heard the shooting and that the police had run away - you cant blame them, they arent paid very mmuch. Then they said to stay in the Hotels and the Brits all said - damn that we are going out onto the streets

tourism dipped a billion dollars ( I thought much more) and the Luxoris knew they would starve
