/// Mr Thompson expressed his 'increasing concern' over the rhetoric of the demonstrations, and said a number of criminal offences had been committed outside the school since Sunday night. ///

/// The force received reports at 9.30pm on Sunday of assault and criminal damage on Dennis Road in Moseley, as well as reports of malicious communications received by the school on Thursday. ///

That was to Spath Pixie x
I understand what you're saying Calico but the protests are because of the new LGBT teachings. This wouldn't have much to do with the fact that religion is or isn't taught as a subject and all pupils are obliged to learn about all religions equally.
Ok :-) x
Well it would and it wouldn't Spath because the two are interlinked. It's largely a religious / cultural objection to the fact that LGBT equality is being taught. The more we can ' normalise that within an ever changing religious landscape the better.
Wait a minute Calico.....no we don't all agree that LGBT is normal.......it all depends on how you define the term normal.
My definition is "does sqad agree with it?" or you could define it as what the "majority do or think of it."
Certainly the objection to the teaching of young children of LGBT is not just Muslim or religious related and i thin k that you would be surprised at how many white, non Muslims would object to that being in the school curriculum.......I certainly would and do support the peaceful protestations.
I agree with Sqad.IMO it is up to the parents to teach or not teach this subject to their children.
I believe this 'Dick & Dick' stuff for infants is only being trialled in a few schools across the country which explains why the ROP aren't protesting outside every school.
^ That was for Spath.
At the Grammar school that I attended in the north of England in the 50s, Catholic children did not come into morning assembly until after prayers had been said. They did not attend the Scripture lessons either. No-one made a fuss, we just accepted it.
Have to say that I am with the protestors on this issue. Primary school age is not appropriate for LGBT lessons.
Don't think the teacher should be dragging the children into this row.
Well, you might disagree with it personally Sqad/ Danny etc, but the facts are that gay people can marry and have sex quite legally in the UK and have the same rights as heterosexual people. Teaching equality obviously HAS to be equal, you can't merely pay lip service to a law that underlines gay people's rights, and not teach it. Society has moved on from having to hide or be considered second best, and rightly so. The fact that we all don;t like equality laws is moot tbh, it's good for society for everyone to be equally validated. x
As for 'normalising' Islam ------You can forget that.
Calico, I respect your right to have an opinion, but Sqad & I also have the right to disagree with you.,
//Teaching equality obviously HAS to be equal, you can't merely pay lip service to a law that underlines gay people's rights, and not teach it.//

a balance has to be struck. the average 5 year old isn't much bothered that their classmate is a different colour, or goes to a different "church" or has different equipment in their underwear. all they're interested in is going out to play. it can only be counter productive ramming adult politics down their throats at such a young age.
Whether any form of sex education should be taught at all in Infants Schools is another matter entirely, my post centres around the notion that it is going to be, and if it is, then it has to be addressed equally or not at all. It's not so much even of my own personal opinion but just plain simple logic dictates that you cannot have equality if things are not equal.
Well said, Mushroom. (if you don't mind my saying)
Calco gal, so in the pursuit of equality it is all right to ride roughshod over the fact that it is against someones religious teaching.
I kind of get their point.. Why teach something that only like a tiny % of people will go through? They might as well teach kids about all the different disabilities etc and not to judge people..

Oh wait a moment.. They could just teach kids how to be nice, accepting, understanding people?
"I want equality until it applies to group X"
"It's largely a religious / cultural objection to the fact that LGBT equality is being taught."

A lot of people just think it's pointless and many Muslim people feel it is against their religion.
