Sharon i do agree
Isn’t the complaint that people DID register or try to as requested but local councils messed it up?
No idea if that is right.
As it’s Johnny Foreigner who’s suffering well who cares :-)
Two things: Is the allegation of a mess not entirely believable ? Is anybody surprised in the slightest by a mess in the operation/management of anything within the UK ?
Some of the people complaining sorted things out at their end well in time. The council then messed up and did their job too late. Maybe a few too many were complacent and found out but all the same they have been caught out by a rotten system and denied their democratic right. That's not acceptable.
I didn’t mean to me, sweetie.
More Remainer excuses before the tsunami swamps you.
Save some for Monday.
It's not an excuse. We're talking about only a handful of people -- in the grand scheme of things it doesn't affect anything -- but they should have been able to vote. It is their right. It's frankly pathetic that you're unable to see that and are blinded by the politics.
We printed off the form.My husband is an EU citizen .As soon as they announced they were going to hold these elections we made sure he was able to vote.Never had to fill in an extra form before to vote in the EU elections but it was a requirement this time. The council sent him a letter confirming he could vote which he took with him to the polling station and was able to vote.
You have to be on the ball with these things.
//all the same they have been caught out by a rotten system and denied their democratic right. That's not acceptable. //

And on that ironically hilarious note I shall bid ABers, one and all, a very good night. If I didn't laugh I'd cry. :o/
There is no point where you have been denied your democratic right to vote. So there's no irony. But sure, carry on convincing yourself otherwise if you like, nothing's stopping you.
How is it hilarious, Naomi? I’d be upset if I turned up to vote and was told I couldn’t, as I’m sure you would be.
These people assumed they were entitled to vote. My son’s wife is Lithuanian and I think - and she thinks - she could vote. I must ask my son if she was able to.

If she was turned away I don’t think we would find it hilarious.
It's because I'm famously the biggest anti-democrat on this site, clover.
Oh I see. Brexit rears its hideous head again.
Many people I spoke to today are so annoyed they decided not to vote at all.

Without exception they said what’s the point. We voted already and they haven’t done anything so what’s the point now.

I did point out that now is an even greater reason to vote. As a protest against established politicians. But I think it fell on very disenchanted ears.
For what it's worth I think 'many people' are so lazy that they equate sauntering along to put an X in a box to work, like that daft old trout who was all over the news a while back about 'another one'.

They don't deserve a vote, just give them a can of cider and a pie and point them in the direction of a park.
A couple of people I spoke to said they're not voting and the reason they gave, 'I don't know who to vote for' & 'fed up with the whole thing' I just thought how stupid.
This annoys me. It’s always worth voting.

My husband often tells me my vote is wasted because we are in an area where my chosen party is not going to win. But it’s still MY vote and I want to make my choice known.

I voted tactically this time, to send a message and I wish everyone would do so too if their party isn’t likely to win.
