That comparison is not actually valid - Jeremy Corbyn is the Leader of Her Majesty's Opposition, Hilary Clinton holds no comparable position.

The words above are from the link-material, which suggest that the meeting Mr Corbyn requested was probably refused because he had already made it clear that he would boycott the dinner. That's what "perhaps in light of" means!
In other words, the leader of the Opposition would have been happy to discuss with Trump any matter of mutual interest to our two countries, but refused to participate in the absurd State Visit ceremonials.

My point was that the OP, as so often, appears to have got the wrong end of the stick re what the Sky News story was actually saying, Naomi! He took it to be critical of Mr Corbyn, but it wasn't. In other words, his interpretation was - at best - just as much 'perhaps' as mine!

It doesn't matter whether Corbyn was sulking or not. Donald Trump was right to decline to see him. He's irrelevant to Trump's visit.
