Trump V Khan
Whose side are you on?
Answers
on this subject, neither, Khan's a complete *** and considering the amount of killings in the US I'd say Trump's in a mighty glass house lobbing bricks. The basic problem is that we are in denial about Dodge city, we all know the cause, we all know how to deal with it but we are frozen to the spot by fear of being labelled with the R word.

/// The 2017 gun-related death figures compared America to the UK and theirs was forty times our rate. ///
You are forgetting that the excuse for our killings is because the killers come from 'deprived areas' that being the case they can't afford expensive guns and knives are much cheaper than guns.

ANOTHEOLDGIT, even without your checking, your assertion was clearly false. Why would you think that merely because YOU had not seen reports trials that no-one, not one single person had been charged?
Then you compound the error by saying that even if they were, we don't get to hear the outcome.
I don't go out my way to gen up on murders in London but it took longer to copy and paste those links than it did to find them.

what's ineffectual about Khan, douglas? Bear in mind that the powers of the London mayor are extremely limited; the government gives away as little as it can, and in this case he has almost none at all; same for his predecessors. His main power is over transport. Crime is Javid's problem, but I can't see that he's ever addressed it.
Bearing in mind the comments made last year about London's and New York's homicides, this is from the BBC.
"New York Police Department statistics show its per capita murder rate was twice as high.
Month-by-month statistics can mislead because crimes don't occur at regular intervals - but this year's rate for New York is, so far, also double London's.
New York is by no means the US's most dangerous city - there are many others which have far higher murder rates."

Comparisons are odious. You can always find an example there which flatters the case her.
Is London becoming more violent, or not? And if so, what are the possible causes? The usual explanations refer to social factors like poor education, high unemployment, and feelings of "exclusion".
I'm happy to look at social factors. But maybe we're not looking at some of the most obvious. One is diversity. Another one is the high number of homes where the children do mnot have a father.
Obviously these last two are never discussed, are they?
