He has the smallest constituency majority (5,034) of any Prime Minister since 1924, and in the current unpredictable political climate, he could well be voted out.
Not even sure how he ended up as the MP for Uxbridge - has he spent much time there since elected, helping his constituents sort their problems out?

all the lefties have been having a wet dream about a GE for the last year or so. They are deluded, hoping that a few tories will happily self terminate in a hissy fit to deliver a GE. Dream on the tories are split on brexit not everything and they are nothing if not pragmatic. After what happened in 2017 Boris will not risk the same. Especially before brexit. He has guaranteed we leave on Halloween, several times, lets get that done first.
Corbyn is being incredibly naive in stating there should be a General Election.
If a GE were called now I would suggest it is more likely than not the Conservatives would succeed in achieving an outright majority, thus allowing them to kick the DUP into touch, and this is in no small part due to the fact most sensible people realise that Labour in its current guise would be disastrous for the country given the three clowns who would become the holders of the three most important jobs in Government.
I know a few people who have been Labour stalwarts who have said they could not vote for Labour at the moment - it's these people I feel sorry for as they don't have a party at the moment.
There'll always be people who will vote Labour even if they fielded a piece of cheese with a red rosette (same works for dyed-in-the-wool Tories as well) but I very much doubt there'd be enough of them to ensure success.
Corbyn should be careful of what he wishes for. As it stands he's given some credence as the leader of the opposition - in the event of a GE defeat where they go backwards, he'd swiftly be returned to the back benches.

I was looking at this from the new PM’s point of view.
It would obviously risky and as ymb points out it is not wholly within his power anyway.
If he really is confident that he can leave the EU by Oct 31 with some sort of deal then plainly it would be pointless to call an election now. Idiotic even.
Less so if a no deal Brexit occurs on that date.
However Johnson in his heart of hearts must know that it is very likely that he will fail.
So he might be tempted to at least try to call an election now as it is probably unlikely that the current government can survive much beyond this year anyway.
Also Jeremy Corbyn may not be around a lot longer, anyway and in any case after Brexit Labour would probably be stronger as their fannying around over it would then presumably be pointless.
Better maybe to be positive, optimistic and “can do”? Rather than face an election having been humiliated by a no confidence vote or another Brexit failure?
Of course it would be hugely risky also and I don’t think he will, but there are reasons ...

ich; "However Johnson in his heart of hearts must know that it is very likely that he will fail.

Leaving on Halloween is the simplest thing in the world, all he has to do is ....Nothing at all! Why do you think the current government cannot survive "much beyond this year"?
