Rather than annually demonstrating our financial largesse in the form of Foreign Aid why don't we get our own house in order first. Push the boat out and put that extra cash towards steel rails that won't let us down and bring the commute to a standstill.I know these heatwaves are currently few and far between but can't we just prepare for the worst and hope for the best?
When I was a young lad there was a London Borough of Barnet Council depot at the bottom of our drive in Aerodrome Road,Colindale. Inside it was about 12 yellow snow plough/gritters and mountains of salt.
When ,coincidentally Boris was Mayor of London, this country was again caught napping by unexpected and excessive overnight snowfall. Once again the commuters suffered as we didn't have enough snow ploughs to get the London buses out the depots and those, already out, quickly became stuck and irretrievable until the thaw.Rather than continually making our country a laughing stock why can't we get it right once and for all and then consider other third world countries who appear to chug along quite happily?
