That means an average of 29 people per store.

They are only small and I’ve never seen more than about four people working in them.

Always the same four though? And there will be people you don’t see
They've over done it.
Are you sure that you are not confusing them with Tesco Express, which ARE small. The Tesco Metros that I have seen have all been quite large.
We have a Tesco Express nearby and they opened a Metro 5 minutes down the road. There really isn't that much difference between the two except the fuel.

Ah yes Tesco Express are smaller.

In that case there probably is more than 29 people work there lol

Mind you I work in a Morrison’s store and if you got rid of even ten people it would be chaos.
I can only go by the ones I've seen....Express are no bigger than a corner shop....and Metro have been like a small (continental-style and size) supermarket.
they're the ordinary-size stores, not the little expresses or the huge ones.

Every little helps.
shame they can't get their marketing right - they have lost the plot as in their once superb data analysis and use of their customer cards - now they are a dying brand, IMO.
Over expanded then put the prices of staples up to try and recover. Quite how they thought that was a good idea with Aldo/Lidl chomping into the market let alone the other big players all keeping prices down to compete with the Germans.

Still, they are big enough to recover given the right management.
