Ten foot waves? Pah, baby stuff: But they're still crazy
14:01 Thu 08th Aug 2019
My step-granddaughter was to go the the Newquay festival. She’s gutted.
Earlier, I’d thought it was a bit mimsy to cancel, but seeing the weather forecast I think they’re right.

Aye everyone's lifes are at best interest, instead of their desire to get on it.
And yet they're allowing the surfers to compete ?
Saying there'll be 10ft + waves, better them than me
Nanny state strikes again.

Madness isn't it! To a professional surfer though, a 10ft wave is about perfect.
Yeah I suppose but they're still mad as a box of frogs haha
It'd *not* the Nanny State, the organisers would doubtless be liable for any damage or injuries caused to people or property if they didn't cancel the event, having been forewarned of the worsening weather conditions.

A great shame for disappointed kids but this is the UK in a soggy August. 'It' happens. Blame the excessive rain and high wind on Global warming or AnswerBank. Just batten down the hatches and thank yourselves lucky you don't live in a Hurricane belt. Best check your home insurance as well.
It's a warning system sure it's going to rain and maybe will flood in some places.

Remember to keep yer pets in when it floods.
Diddlydo //Nanny state strikes again//
Nothing to do with the state. The met office has issued a warning and how people react is up to them.
My golfish is a competent swimmer.
Exactly - Met Office is part of gov.uk. Therefore nanny state.
Diddlydo, how is it a nanny state when people are left to make up their own minds what to do ?
.
Met Office gave the warning - Tenuous link to Nanny State.
Boardmasters Inc. decide to cancel event - Not Nanny State.
Ok Diddly no point in giving advice then?
The Boardmasters’ organisers cancelled the event, not the ‘nanny state’.
Cancelled because of influence from nanny state + Elf 'n'Safety gone mad. What's wrong with letting people decide based on common sense?
