No doubt necessity is the mother of invention, but on the other hand why wait until it's necessary to make changes, by which time it will be too late at least to save, among other places, the Maldives, most of the Netherlands, large parts of East Anglia, Lisbon, New Orleans, etc (all of which are under threat by, say, 2150 or so).
Meanwhile, yes, human population control is going to be part of the picture. But the only way to sensibly achieve that is to fund birth control and women's sexual health generally, and even then it wouldn't be enough to merely slow down the population growth rate. Better to invest in already existing greener technologies, rather than rant about how it's all China's fault. How odd that going on about China is an excuse to ignore the problem rather than a motivation to tackle it as best we can.
