When May disastrously put out she was going to clobber everyone for 'old tax' she lost her majority.

Is making stamp duty (a tax I believe should be abolished) going to be the same?

And how will it help the housing market? Either people will slap the tax on the property or refuse to sell thus stagnating the market.

And why should people who already own a house and so have paid this draconian tax have to pay it again?

Me thinks our Sajid hasn't thought this one through!

Rates on loans and savings are the lowest ever seen, and that's nothing to boast about. It means prudent savers, including those who now need to live off their admirable earlier behaviour, are abused by those profligate enough to want to just spend spend spend without consequence.

Its the tax on private health insurance and on insurance in general that narks me...specially on health insurance. I save the NHS money by having private insurance and am penalised for it.

I picked up on Javid’s utterly stupid comment and had to post on that.
It did not answer your question, so sorry for taking the thread off subject.
For the record, when I paid Stamp Duty I resented doing so. The Government should not get a cut of what is essentially a private sale.
