I see no particular reason to disbelieve the honesty of his statement(s) but obviously trusting him is something that requires some caution. He was basically still a child when he set off on his fanciful and ill-fated path. By now a lot of reality will have made a dent/impression in/on his fervour/mind. If I imagine myself as a (passionate, easily influenced, etc.) romantic ideologue at that age, say some sort of nationalist, then I cannot swear that I might not go further than I should in trying to bring about my type of utopia ("democracy", "freedom", "control", etc., etc.). Right through history there are countless examples of misguided youths of all sorts, IS recruits are the latest and most modern manifestation of such folly (at the other end of the folly spectrum there are those who confine themselves to ranting on an internet forum in their old age).

It should be relatively easy to examine his willingness/intentions when it comes to speaking out against Muslim extremism. From what he is reported to have said it strikes me this man is very possibly at least of average intelligence, not a vacant head - which is likely exactly why he is in his present predicament. This business with revoking of nationality is of course, like so much else from that direction, simply for convenience on the political stage, there is no deep thinking behind it.

I am not a particularly liberal minded person, but to me this young man is on the Autism spectrum and is not entirely responsible for his actions. I think he should have been allowed back to the UK and monitored closely. I actually feel sorry for him and his parents.
Do not feel the same way about Jihadi brides. Feel they are a much more dangerous proposition.

I think that he is crying out to the PM of Canada who once stated that Canadian nationals who had joined ISIS and now wanted to return home could be encouraged to speak out and help discourage other Canadian young people not to become radicalized.

I'll be completely honest Margeret, I'm the complete opposite. The brides were children who were groomed and brainwashed online. I don't think they pose any real danger, and should be returned and tried of any crimes here.

By allowing him to survive they are funding terrorism. If no funding then he (they) would have to stop.

So yes, however you spin it they funded terrorism and they were found guilty. They were told not to do it so they knew full well what they were doing. Selfih nasty people who didnt care about how their 'lovely' son's actions maybe killing other innocents.

Mozz71, I do agree that the Jihadi brides were radicalised at a very young and impressionable age and I would feel sorry for them if I felt they were no longer radicalised. My worry is they are still are and could cause problems in the future.
