Actually the fires 8n the Amazon are no worse than they have for the last 15 years. The Amazon doesn’t produce 20% of the worlds oxygen and there are more trees in the world than there were (I think) 30 years ago.

"The lungs of the earth" really doesn't make much sense since lungs expel carbon dioxide and trees and other plant life expel oxygen. However, the the term is quite dramatic, emotive, and almost hysterical.

Someone on facebook shared an image of it raining in the amazon with the caption "It's finally raining again in the amazon, the fires are over".

This made me want to smack my face so hard with my palm.

1- not all the amazon is burning...

2- even where it is burning, it's still a rain forest and rain doesn't actually put out forest fires

3. It's too humid in the amazon rain forest for forest fires to naturally be up any year.. let alone 87% on last year
