If there was a NO DEAL,surely we aren't so dependant to lean on the EU as a crutch? We have farms for fruit and other produce , I heard yesterday there could be water shortages, well I suppose that's what happens when water companies are bought by France and other overseas countries, I realise oil will be a massive problem which will effect our imports , but we managed before,so we will manage again

If you check the packaging of supermarket foods you will see that a high proportion comes from countries outside the EU.

the main problems will be admin based. eg UK/EUSSR will have more border checks taking longer. .....until we do a deal of course which will be almost immediate because once political posturing is out of the way, we can do whats best all round and business will find a way. We can't produce enough food to feed us all. Even Aunt Bessie's prefers to import potatoes from Poland even though we have perfect growing and storing conditions in the UK.

Europeans sell food for income. If they don't sell to us they must find another market or allow their produce to rot, and then they lose money. Do you really think they are not going to sell food to the UK after Brexit? It is in THEIR interest to do so!

We depend on suppliers worldwide. As the EU is close, of course we presently do a fair amount of food purchases there, it was one of the reasons we opted to stay in the EEC. But one can change suppliers once out, or if terms are reasonable stay with EU ones and keep transportation lower.

It's not just food. We only produce 44% of our gas, 47% is piped under the sea from Europe. 9% is imported in LG tankers.

We will ve able to buy on WTO terms anyway, but I guess the issue will be how quickly nations cotton on that it is in their own interest to make a reasonable trade deal without ridiculous conditions.

Just a quick survey of foods in my fridge and cupboards-----beetroot,spinach,lettuce, mushrooms,eggs,milk,mustard,jams,onions,peppers,cheeses,apples, all produced in the UK.
Tomatoes-Nederlands,Bananas-Ecuador,Seafood sticks- Thailand, Kiwi fruits-N.Z.
Chicken and other meats --Uk.
You could also include include tinned stuff and bread and cakes , porridge oats and cereals all produced in the UK.So why are some people worrying? We managed with less during the war and no-one starved to death then.
We do import from other countries in the world other than Europe.Just have to cut down on the pate-de-foie-gras,beau jolais, Brussels sprouts, French bread, German sausage, Dutch cheeses, Danish blue ,Spanish onions,(none of which I ever buy ,so I won't miss them at all)

The scare mongerers have been out in force a lot lately, on November 1st we are all going to die, no food, no medicine, no water, no electricity, no money..... nothing!
Only the EU can save us from certain death, people like Juncker, Barnier, Merkel, Macron etc are the only people that can help us, assisted by Blair, Major, Mandleson, Corbyn, Swinson, Thornbury, Cameron and Heseltine.
We have all been so stupid, all 17.4 million of us that voted leave have been very naughty children, tut tut tut!!

Possible "water shortages" is nothing to do with who owns our water companies...it's to do with possible delays/shortages of some of the chemicals required to properly treat many of our (larger) raw water sources....much of the stuff is imported.

Absolutely! I have been making this point as long as everyone has been debating Brexit on this site - the scaremongers act as though the EU will cease trading with us on 1 November, which is obvious nonsense. They will have their re-aligned trade agreements prepared and ready to roll as soon as the decision is reached, which ever way it goes.

The problem isn’t stuff coming from the EU but anything coming from abroad.

We don’t import any oil from the EU, on the other hand.
