It does seem that her judgement was extremely ' poor ' for a cop
Even if you thought you were in your own appartment and you happen upon a guy sitting down on the settee eating ice cream - would your first instinct be to pump a few bullets into him ?
I think it's sad all round. I see no obvious denial of her story in as much as an alternative motive. The issue is at least two fold. If guns were not as plentiful and accepted in the country there might be less fear of being killed and getting one's shot in first. Then a train police officer should know to be sure before firing even after a long day. How she entered a neighbour's flat thinking it was her own is difficult to understand. Unsure what alternative outcome there could be in the present circumstances.

I wonder if she was given a sobriety test after her 'long day at work' prior to the bizarre shooting.
I know how some cops unwind after a long hard day at the factory!
Shocked at what I feel is way too short a sentence. Why would you just shoot someone who was sitting down eating ice cream. If she genuinely thought she was in the wrong apartment, why not just chellenge him verbally ?? I could not have been as forgiving as this man.
