A tongue in cheek post from Teacake44 on Spaths
'Motorway Speed Could Rise To 80Mph thread' read
//The last time I went in Aldi the checkout gal was throwing my shopping at me a lot faster than that//

A jokey post in an unrelated thread but nevertheless true!!
Took my wheelchair bound mum shopping in Morrisons a few days ago. Trying to bag the items myself and ended up with a mountain of groceries...checkout girl was literally elbowing the item down so she could scan the next one instead of slowing down a bit so that I could pack them.
After finishing scanning she gave me the total. I carried on packing while she sat and huffed and puffed for a bit and THEN paid. She didn't seem best pleased that I made her wait.
(There wasn't even anyone else in the que or else I would have hurried)

Just WHY do checkout operatives whiz through ur groceries like this?
Give me time to pack for Gods sake!

Hi N
Had the same problem once in Tesco - just said to the checkout girl " please slow down, I'm not as young as you ! " Did the trick.

Use the self-service tills. Pack at your leisure, Nailit.
I know they get timed at Aldi, and like you I make them wait, they couldn't care a toss what condition your shopping ends up like.
Iunderstand the check out people all get timed now and they expect you to put your shopping back into your trolley and then pack your shopping into your bags after you have paid for your shopping and left the till.

Well next time they ask if I would like help with my packing...Im going to say yes!
Don't know why we all don't do it?
We're made to feel a nuisance If we're not quick enough. If only we were more like robots! :-(

Gets a bit difficult pushing a wheelchair, a trolley and trying to both scan and pack all at the same time.
19.14 Ha ha never thought of saying that, that will fox em.
Scan and go is your solution to avoid upsetting another operative
Gosh I get quite the opposite in my local Tesco, don't know about being timed but they all seem to be trained to start a conversation about how your day is going and often carrying on the conversation long after you've packed, paid and just want to get away.
I'd always accept help offered with my packing, hand some of my bags over and we do it together. Done in half the time.

Lidl and Aldi excepted as they operate differently and actually have a bagging area.
19.19 I think they get a green light come up on their till when their allowed to talk to you, its normally when there's a lack of customer's, so they want to hang on to you so they look busy. :0)

Think that's its a British thing...'No thanks I can manage' type of thing.
Well boolocks to that in the future!!
''Would you like help with your packing sir?''
''Yes please. Do it all. After all Ive used your bloody store and I expect some customer service.''

''Would you like a carrier bag?'
''No thanks, I'll just juggle my 97 items home thanks''
Leave Items in your trolley and move to a clear space and pack your bags at your leisure, much easier and quicker.
I think they have been trained in Lidl and Aldi.

TBH even if I’m in Lidl and Aldi I pack slowly just to slow them down. Apparently they are monitored on the number of items scanned per minute and must maintain a min.

But as far as I know Morrison’s don’t have that sort of monitoring. In fact when I started at my local Morrison’s we were told that some customers come to the store so they have someone to talk to and we have to make time to listen and talk to them.

It doesn’t work out that way when we’re busy but we do chat when the chance allows.
19.25 I think the point nailit is making is the service you get is getting thinner and thinner, you are herded out like cattle.

That like going to a garage for a spare part for you car and been told
''Its over there mate, just fit it on''
And then given the bill for it.
