Someone said it was like Franco, whose body was frozen after he died for a while, but was still officially the leader. Corbyn’s effectively being frozen out, but kept in place. McDonnell doesn’t want his chance of power stymied by the current leader.

I have maintained since he was elected - by default - that Corbyn is unelectable as a party leader, and the party would do well to ditch him before an election.
It looks like that are accepting that losing this election is a foregone, so they can ditch him afterwards, it's not likely he will resign.
