Perhaps they feel that the people in charge of controlling the number of people going into watch a match have learned a lesson or two from the Hillsborough disaster. How many other similar disasters have happened since people started to play matches or was that the only one?

In England and Wales, standing is permitted at rugby union and rugby league venues, as well as at speedway and horse-racing. It is also permitted at football grounds outside the top two divisions.
As usual, after a tragedy then the ensuing legislation went over the top. Standing is openly flouted at many grounds. The ideal situation would be to have allocated parts of the ground where standing is permitted, and other parts where it is forbidden.
To label that as Pro Death is absurd.

Would've though barriers would be as good as seating to prevent crushes if properly placed. Never had a seat for the match when I was a lad.

Jezza's bandwagon jumping with last night's incidents putting football fans in the headlines, but calling him pro death makes you sound anti intelligence.

I think the notion of Labour being 'pro-death' is putting the point rather too strongly.

My take on this is that Labour likes to see itself as the party of the 'working man' and football as a 'working man's' sport.

By offering what they spin as snobby out-of-touch legislation by fox-hunting toffs being repealed by the 'working man's party, makes them look all folksy and in touch with the electorate.

Given that a season ticket at Chelsea can cost north of twelve hundred pounds, and an on-the-day ticket is up to ninety pounds, I think Jezza and the boys have missed the boat on football being a 'working man's game these days.

But Jezza is never really known for being in touch with reality - his election promises certainly show that.

I always saw providing seating at football stadiums was a step forward when the legislation happened. I don't understand why anyone would want to stand when there are seats available.

It's alright when you're on the park watching Sunday league or something, but in a terraced situation I do think it's potentially dangerous.

I agree, it was a step forward in protecting people, but as the husband of a lifelong football fanatic, I entirely understand why fans want to stand, and why they still do.
