Junckett says we are out on Jan 31. I assume he's really saying that no more extensions will be allowed.

Oh, I really hope so!
The EU will extend A50 for as long as we keep asking for an extension. The longer is goes on the greater the chance of it being seen as all too much trouble and all the while they are copping £1bn a month. What's not to like?
If the UK Government changes, then the EU will bend over backwards to avoid Brexit on 31 Jan 2920.
If Boris wins then no more extensions.
The extension is just so we can have an election. Another one will be made in January, wait and see.
There is one huge advantage for Labour were they to win
an election and try to negotiate a new deal.
Putting it to a referendum would guarantee a definite outcome one way or the other.
I rather think that in that admittedly currently unlikely looking scenario the EU might well be interested.
Let's see who wins first. Mind you, if I have to wait till 2920 for Brexiy I'm going to miss all the fun.

2920, you think we'll still be in then gromit?
It seems never ending :-/
Labour's plan is to renegotiate the deal and then have a referendum with a choice of that new deal or remain. What they don't say is which of those two choices they would back - Emily Thornberry was made to look very stupid on Question Time not long ago when she said that she'd campaign in that referendum against any new deal the Labour Party had only just renegotiated!
//…Emily Thornberry was made to look very stupid on Question Time not long ago...//

It doesn't take much.
Ah yes, Lady Nugee, Labour stalwart from the mean streets of, er, Guildford. But hey, she failed her eleven plus, so I suppose that means she had a difficult start in life...
Groundhog Day.
All this merely emphasises the need for all Brexiteers to vote Tory this time.
"If Boris wins then no more extensions."

That's some good drugs there. :-)
Juncker can say whatever he likes but HE is definitely leaving the EU Commission before the UK can leave the EU.

The new College of Commissioners, under the presidency of Ursula von der Leyen, is expected to be confirmed by the European Parliament by 1st December.
"And he said he did not think Labour’s pledge to renegotiate the withdrawal agreement if it wins a majority in the general election was a realistic approach - although this would be an issue for his successor."

It's not up to him, is it?
Question Author
TCL:"it's up to him, is it?" - you answered your own question just above: "although this would be an issue for his successor."
Why did you miss out the word "not" from my question?

If his successor had made a similar statement, it would have been more relevant.
Question Author
sorry I miss quoted noty intentionaly, your quote is directly above. It's not up to him is correct because he's out the door, you answered your own question.

Anyway how is our bet coming on? can't find anything about the case.
Putting it to a referendum is extremely unlikely to result in a definite outcome. Firstly they have no intention of putting any acceptable option on the ballot paper. Just whatever remain deal they hope they'd get vs revoking A50. And secondly no one who believes in democracy and the previous referendum result is going to let such abuse by a government be the end of anything. It'd just get kicked off again at the earliest opportunity because it was invalid to deny the people that initial decision to go.
