It's no more the Victorian era than you are.

"Rule, Britannia!" is a British patriotic song, originating from the poem "Rule, Britannia" by James Thomson and set to music by Thomas Arne in 1740. It is strongly associated with the Royal Navy, but also used by the British Army.
The song dates from the Georgian era,1745, long before the
Victorians.
Your scattergun approach to debate is losing any charm it once had, peace lily.
Mamy, the lady in the video in the article said 17 century (even more dated) but when I did a google some how the Victorian era popped up.. The link I read I didn't read enough of it.
Did you know that Rule Britannia was written by a Scotsman?
18th Century.
Was it not wrote by Thomas Augustine?
^^^James Thomson.
Yes, he wrote the lyrics.
Isn't it the words you are offended by?

Don't tell me it's the music Thomas Arne set it to.
I've not mentioned being offended. But I can see where the lady is coming from.
Typical, nasty response at 16:29.
//I can see where the lady is coming from.//

I can see where she's coming from too. The Gambia. Flipping cheek!
It's just a bloody song, for God's sake! If you don't like it don't listen to it. If you watch the LNOTPs it is going to be sung at the end. So either watch all of it bar the end or don't watch it at all. Nobody particularly gives a toss what Lilly Allen or Joanna Jarjue (whoever they might be) thinks of it. It seems it reminds Ms Jarjue of "Colonial Rule" and if she finds that not to her taste she simply does not have to listen to it.
All this anti-British feeling. No one seems to mind calling on good old Britannia when they need help - or choosing to live here when it suits them.
Precisely, Naomi.
Spot on naomi x
I'm British, born in South London, and very proud of it....who is this girl to go on TV, and spout this utter rubbish? Probably wants to make a name for herself, for her 15 mins of fame.

I never thought I would ever say this, but I agree with Piers Morgan, and he is passionate. Good on him for answering back and making sense.
