How are we, as a society, going to stop this knife culture? Can we try and have some ideas rather than turning this into the usual political slanging match, thanks.

i don't have a clue how you stop it, better parenting, more youth facilities, more money for policing all seems to not do the right thing..

Probably as emmie says. We are not great with children and teenagers in this country. We like them to stay well out of the way growing up. More socialisation and more inclusion would be good, for a start.

It has to start at grass roots level, with people who the knife carriers respect, whether that be community leaders or celebrities. Maybe school / youth club visits at a very early age (7 or 8). Maybe ‘get tough’ policies like those used in NY in the 90s.

I agree though...its alarming that a child would possibly be in a group of people in possession of such a deadly weapon. What the heck did they intend to use them for??

Perhaps the time has come for security scanners, ( the ones you walk through that detect metal) to be installed at the entrance of cinemas, clubs, and even schools. Expensive, yes, but if it stops people from taking knives and machetes into these places then it would be worth it.

You won't stop any crimes happening with a 60% reduction within the police force, that is political I'm afraid, along with that reduction you have single crew officers driving as much as 20/30 miles between crimes, and very little chance of reaching rural areas. The officers that are left have had their fill and are leaving the force, or are off sick due to the extra pressure their under, the baddies know this and are taking full advantage of the situation, its one big joke.
Ask yourself would you be a cop single crew at night? knowing that the present powers that be are putting your life at a bigger risk than it need be, just to save money. The so called power that be at the moment as promised 20 thousand new police officers over the next 5 years. ( we need them NOW) in 5 YEARS TIME 10 thousand will have left, if not more. ho ho ho
