As I said whilst Mr Duckenfield's earlier trial was in progress, I would not be surprised to see him acquitted. He made a mistake - everybody makes them from time to time. His, alas, had tragic consequences. But that does not make him guilty of a most serious criminal offence and I believe it was wrong to stand him up.
If the fans of the game had got there on time and not as kick off was starting it would not have happened people in that area noted that most of the male fans that rushed to get in were drinking at bars near the stadium till the last minute. This has always been a problem with football. A correct verdict has been given
Zac @ 16.49 sums up my view exactly. And the victims' families and friends are expressing their views on Sky News and as expected the verdict today has changed nothing for them. I think they have to accept it.
I have absolutely no doubt the relatives of the victims are distraught by this verdict, as I’m sure I would be if I were in their position.
However....
I was always uneasy about this prosecution as it felt to me to be in the interest of scapegoatism to sate the blood baying rather than in the interest of justice, so it seems to me to be the correct decision.
