//...unless you think due process involved lying, and cover up// That happened after the event, Peter. Mr Duckenfield's trial was concerned with what happened in the run up to the tragedy and his part in it. What followed was of no concern to that court. The bereaved families are understandably disappointed. They suggest that "the system is flawed". I...

Sorry, ladybirder, you beat me to it! Perhaps Ed could delete my one as it seems silly to have two identical threads going.

Sod's law NJ. I checked before I posted as well but we have both recorded the same time. If the Ed could move on or the other that would be good. Ed please?
I'm absolutely positive that due process has been observed and the correct conclusion has been arrived at.

The victim's families may have a different POV.
As I wasn't in the court room I don't feel qualified to express a view.
Good. He can now get on with the rest of his life without this constantly hanging over him, but I bet it won't be easy.
He has been found not guilty and although it’s not what the families want, they have to accept it.
I've been of the opinion, for some time, that he should not be the only one to shoulder the blame for the disaster.
As I said whilst Mr Duckenfield's earlier trial was in progress, I would not be surprised to see him acquitted. He made a mistake - everybody makes them from time to time. His, alas, had tragic consequences. But that does not make him guilty of a most serious criminal offence and I believe it was wrong to stand him up.
I wonder how many people would have died had he not ordered that gate to be opened and what the comments would have been.
Justice has been served IMHO.
"I wonder how many would have died had he not ordered the gate to be opened........." I'd hazard a guess at none!
If the fans of the game had got there on time and not as kick off was starting it would not have happened people in that area noted that most of the male fans that rushed to get in were drinking at bars near the stadium till the last minute. This has always been a problem with football. A correct verdict has been given
Ken - you don't think people would have been crushed against the closed gate then?
^
Nope. The fans would have probably spread out looking for a gate that was open.

Zac @ 16.49 sums up my view exactly. And the victims' families and friends are expressing their views on Sky News and as expected the verdict today has changed nothing for them. I think they have to accept it.
^
"I think they have to accept it." Would you in their position?
I have absolutely no doubt the relatives of the victims are distraught by this verdict, as I’m sure I would be if I were in their position.

However....

I was always uneasy about this prosecution as it felt to me to be in the interest of scapegoatism to sate the blood baying rather than in the interest of justice, so it seems to me to be the correct decision.
It was tragic but no one forced them to rush through the gate and down the tunnel.
this won't be the end of it, according to the news this evening. He has been found not guilty of course.
