Am I the only one who thinks that sending two inexperienced, unarmed women to the scene of an armed robbery in progress is the actions of an idiot?

I haven't heard a word said on this point up to now.

I was under the impression that all officers were trained in armed combat, so the issue of what a female would do it they guys had just been armed with knives is a bit daft.

I understand that many men are bigger and stronger that females, thats obvious, but that doesn't mean that a trained fighter no matter how small couldn't disarm a man - that is what their training is aimed at doing. There is always a risk but you can't just assume that they'd be hopeless

they also carry a truncheon and pepper spray.

I agree though that 2 rookies shouldn't have been together - male or female!

JB sorry it took so long to reply. No i have no problems with your postings and make a point of reading them as i do all the others. I may not agree with all your views and take great pleasure in sometimes egging you on and you are quick to jump to the bait but never any ill intent.

So do you think the person who sent them knew that they were going to an armed robbery ? Of course they didn't. If they did then an order to arm would have been requested and granted, firearms officers would have been kitted up and put in place. There simply was no warning or time, anymore than if they had been called to a cat up a tree, they were just shot down in cold blood answering what appeared to be one of the probably many calls they had been to and which WPCs or any PC goes to day in day out.

By the way Chessman ... what are your views on the excellent women who are actually in the armed reponse unit and do a wonderful job .. just out of interest do you think they should not be doing that either ???
