For all his obstructiveness, Bercow was not the reason that Brexit didn't go through when he was the Speaker. The obvious reason it failed is because some Tory MPs' failed to support their own PM. That was the cause. The Tories refuse to acknowledge that. Some of the votes were so close that even if a handful of the rebels had supported the govt, Brexit would have been done, despite Bercow, Corby et al. John Bercow has played his part in the rich, political history of this country, whether you were in favour of him or not. Vindictiveness towards him over Brexit is now surfacing, especially from those Tories who wear The Emperors' New Clothes, even now. Should he get a peerage? I don't care, but Johnson seems to me to be the type of person that isn't afraid to show his vindictiveness, and refuse to award a peerage whilst saying he doesn't deserve one because of his handling of Brexit.
