and shouted in my beautiful tenor voice - "someone take this child please!"
and the owner of the child snatched here, went on talking to the guapos that I had cruelly interrupted and did a Miss Piggy act- "what are you a stranger doing with a soaked child in your arms, disgusting I say!"
I had nightnares about it for weeks after

People die in relatively small amounts of water, if none could swim it is more than possible.
And even if you can swim a panincking drowning person is dangerous. I did ASA lifesaving and did have occasion to use it. You have to come up behind them so they cannot grab them if you dont you are in trouble. I am (was) a very strong swimmer having done competition swimming believe me it's easy to get caught yourself.
