Though I can see the reasons why protection may be removed I don't think making it so public is a good move.

Royals can always retain their security cover by paying for it.
not necessarily, douglas. Reagan died at 93. So did Ford, and he was only president for about 10 minutes. Bush was 94. Carter's 95 and still going. A secret service detail will keep you alive longer than the NHS; we should all have one.

Can't see this happening myself. It said, 'may' lose his close protection.
Personally I think that regardless of his ‘misdeeds or wrong-doing’ he has been and always will be an important member of the royal family. Just because he’s on a bit of a downer at the moment and stepped back from royal duties for now doesn’t mean he won’t be a target.

TBH both him and the sussexes will be targets wherever they live simply for who they are and to take out a major royal in fact any royal will be a real feather in the cap of a terrorist group.
