Time for the government to step up and if necessary increase taxes to help the poor victims of flooding.

If taxes increase, the money needs to go towards implementing the measures which birdie has outlined. There are already measures in place for flood victims through a national scheme:

Of course, you could argue that the rest of us pay higher premiums to fund this and therefore it was a kind of stealth tax.

Every time this happens, someone from the Environment Agency goes on TV and radio and uses it as an opportunity to congratulate themselves for all the work they've done since the last occurrence, whilst the poor people affected look on, helpless.

The poor victims? there are folk that live a good distance from the river who have been affected, and I feel for them. Now in Ironbridge ( Shropshire) not far from me is renown for flooding with far less rain that we have seen of late. The properties that line the river banks are very expensive, because of there views, anyone buying these know the risk of flooding is always there.

Now one man from Shropshire decided to buy an old boathouse on the edge of the river ( listed building) to buy a listed building can be expensive to start with, he's been renovating this for the last 18 months so he says, and invested his life savings, so he can let it out as an holiday home. Sorry mate, but that's was a very bad business move, no good screaming at the government for compensation, you knew the risks.

I believe the late Paul Daniels had a home on the edge of the river Thames at one point and he lost all. At no point do I enjoy to see people have this happen to them, its awful, and for months after, but you have to take responsibility for your own decisions. Conclusion, folk who have the funds to buy expensive property along the river edge, should buy the expensive insurance, not try to hood wink the government.

Totally agree with 9:19. Not higher taxes, but yes, I would definitely donate to those in affected areas, poor beggars …

It is no use whatsoever appealing to the Ecomentalists, who have seized control of the Environment Agencies, to show a bit of common sense or to have some empathy with their fellow human beings. They almost revel in the misery they can cause to ordinary people and have no intention any time soon of modifying their outlook. No Indeed....the only way to spur them into action is to point out that a million badgers have drowned, thousands of cuddly fox cubs are orphaned, toads and newts have been washed out to sea and that the dragonfly lava will not hatch this year or ever again(just for effect that bit). There would be such a collective wailing and outcry from the weirdos and a rush to "do sumfin" that you would not believe.

We're all victims of one thing or another doesn't mean tax money should fund acts of god.

Teacake first you start a thread saying people are stupid for saying Boris should go visit, then you want tax payers money to help these people then you slate Corbyn for going to visit the victims of flooding.

Why should the victims pick and choose what aid, assistance or attention they get? They should be happy people even care. Most of the time people only really care for them self and their own.

You can't pick and choose what support you get and in what way. Be grateful people even care.
