Ability to pay for offspring is no negation of the act of consciously deciding to have a large family, although some seem convinced that it is. It's all very well trying to sound moral but a) having kids can't ever be barred to all but the wealthy, and b) finance has nothing to do with reducing numbers. It takes just 2 to have a child which means when they die the world is just 2 fewer. If they have 2 kids who grow up capable of reproduction (to replace them) then the original 2 may not have made things worse, but they certainly didn't make things any better. If they have more than 2 then they are also adding to the potentially exponentially increasing problem. The question has to be whether war, epidemic, or starvation becomes the final solution. We only have one habitable planet. A modicum of responsibility regarding reproduction wouldn't go amiss.
