Catching armed hooligans is a dangerous occupation, chasing 'thought crimes' would seem to be an easier option. Recently Cressida Dick, head of Metropolitan police, claimed she was "proud" to have 300 officers involved in apprehending 'hate criminals'. Does this help you sleep happier in you beds?

Although the thoughts are not crime they are recorded as incidents, and show up on a DBS search by a prospective employer.

I think you will find that during the week when the Ed, and other grown ups are on duty, more common sense is shown. At the weekends the power hungry "watchers" like to flex their muscles.......whilst the cats away, and all that.

More than 20 years ago I used to captain the town’s chess club first team (we regularly won the county league) and played for the county’s first team (all in the aid of playing against strong opponents) - so I considered myself quite a strong player.

But I no longer play competitive over the board chess (against real people). I have quite an old program on my PC (Chessmaster 7000) which has a claimed ELO grade of 2700 (which is world champion level). There are stronger chess programs available, Stockfish has a claimed grade of around 3400 and so should score 100% against the human world chess champion.

Each year I play two reverse colour postal chess games (played by server) for the county and normally get enjoyable games.
