When I read about this a few days ago, it was stated that these hoaxers had fooled many others in the public eye. Harry is just the latest. Why have a go at him, when so many have been caught out?

Yes Naomi, I would call it an error of judgement. He probably didn't even consider the possibility that hoaxers would've gotten his private number.

Its easy to be critical in hindsight, but he's only human. Mistakes happen.

As I understand it he responded to an unchecked email - from his private email address - and then rang them from his private number. That's how they got his private number.
