I'm sure I read somewhere that with the relief on business rates for the next twelve months, Sainsburys said that they welcome this because they pay in excess of £500 million a year, why on earth would they need this relief, its for businesses that have not got any funds coming in. The supermarkets have not got this problem. What would help is they pass that saving on to the customers who are losing there jobs, hence price reductions.

they are going to see huge losses too...people won't be buying the fancy stuff, recreationally shopping and so on. At the same time their cost will go up to keep the stores stocked and open...yes the small businesses will have their own problems but the plc's who are listed on the stock markets must be protected too or the economic situation and ongoing employment will be put at risk

@13.22 makes a little bit of sense, but the bulk business of such is food sales, so full relief seems a little odd.

n24 This I think I read in my local paper, not national so could be wrong.
