There are some people who are looking to make a profit stickling, like this loser:

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/14/technology/coronavirus-purell-wipes-amazon-sellers.html

But isn't there an argument to support those who have gone out to buy extra food (to load into their freezers) for the next few weeks?

Supermarkets and food retailers generally operate on the 'just in time' stocking principle. Even if the major chains have warehouses of non-perishables, the supply chain is going to be screwed up - farms, factories, distribution centres and drivers are all going to affected by Covid-19, so doesn't stocking up (not hoarding) make sense?

sp: " It would've been no worse than the petrol rationing a few year back." - there actually was a problem with fuel supply though, there is no shortage of groceries, well not until the retards starting buying shelf loads of course.

That is why I asked:

//But isn't there an argument to support those who have gone out to buy extra food (to load into their freezers) for the next few weeks?//

I'm not referring to those who have gone mad. The ones who have a tower of Andrex in their shopping - but those who have stocked up extra for the next couple of weeks.

Effectively those are the people who are stressing the supply chain because they have turned created a spike in demand.

there is no shortage of groceries, well not until...

uh, yeah, there's not a shortage until there is.

I agree with you - the hoarders are making like very difficult, but what about the others? Those who are simply buying a bit extra?

There are those that genuinely need extra because they are their kids are at home.
"The trouble is the government has been saying some people might have to be isolated for 3 months. It looks like lots of people are buying 3 months’ worth of food."

Then they're idiots.
I normaly have food for the weekends, but now that I'm working from home I needed to buy stuff for during the week.

I had to (try) to get stuff every day as I use the bus, so can't do a big shop!

Thus when there was stuff that I wanted in stock and it was limited to 4 items that also caused a problem!
SP, you're wriggling, you have realised you were wrong, that's ok just come clean. More/Extra is not a problem, no one is moaning about them, it's the bat *** crazy lot who are probably walking around at home in hazmat suits who think it's armageddon.

I’m sure that many would agree with you. I suppose it’s just one of those things where different people interpret the same story different ways.

I think we can agree to disagree on this.
Interesting reading. I speak from a view in Spain where we are in lockdown, but we couldn’t just go on as normal. Normally the supermarkets get quite busy, but now they limit the number of people allowed in and you have to keep your distance. We are encouraged, or pretty much forced, to stay indoors and only go out when absolutely necessary. Clearly that would encourage anyone to buy a bit extra and make sure they don’t have to go to the supermarket quite so often. On top of that, there is the fear of going to the supermarket. I know TTT thinks the virus isn’t worth a fuss, but many, like me, think this is actually quite scary. Latest figures here show around 20,000 confirmed cases of which over a 1,000 have died and over a 1,000 are in intensive care. Luckily I am a few months short of 70 which makes me safe apparently!

I'm not sure there are many people buying "a bit more". A local electrical retailer told me last week that he'd sold more freezers during the past two weeks than he had in the past two years. People are not only hoarding, they've stepped it up a notch.
There will always be idiots, Vulcan, and people that don't care for anyone but themselves. My only point was that you can't go on as normal.
We've heard all the excuses that the panic buyers (let's be prosaic and pretend they're 'hoarders') may be buying for the old or large families or because they "always" buy in large quantities, but the simple fact of the matter is they are selfish. They may use these excuses to justify their selfishness in their own tiny minds, but people can see through them.
"I know TTT thinks the virus isn’t worth a fuss," - where have i said that? the problems are caused by morons being stupid, if that's possible!
" the problem with perishables is that once supermarkets run low on stock, they might have issues restocking.

The supply chain may be broken because of workers who have to self-isolate,"

Don't worry, SP. I have very close connects in the supplying of fruit n veg industry. All is flourishing. No problems with delivery, either.
"I know TTT thinks the virus isn’t worth a fuss" - how thick can you be? i'm talking about brainless scum making it worse by their greed, what are you referring too?
DeskDiary don't cry about it because you've been wiping your *** with the Daily Mail for the past week because other people have been prioritizing their time to purchase items for those in need, who can't get them for themselves.
"Then they're idiots"

//s/ Yeah people are so dumb for following goverment advice!

Did you vote for conservative by any chance?
TTT....I haven't bought extra food, loo rolls etc. I just buy a bit too much each week so I freeze it. We have more than a months worth of food to feed 7 of us.

I think NickorWan is referring to you asking "Why All The Fuss About Corona?" in this thread -

https://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/News/Question1698452.html

It wasn't clear that you were referring to 'brainless scum making it worse by their greed'. It's difficult to work out what you meant by "Why All The Fuss About Corona?" because you didn't follow up the question.

Perhaps this is why NickorWan assumed you thought the virus was worth the fuss?
